One of the reasons I loved living in Europe was the ease of traveling throughout it. Its small size and the interconnectedness of its countries made visiting the Old Continent enjoyable. Every weekend presented an opportunity to catch a train or flight to the next major European destination. As an international student majoring in International Relations, visiting other politically influential European cities helped my professional development. Hence, studying in Europe was highly beneficial for someone like me.
However, this feasibility is not only beneficial for international relations students. If you are studying or living in one European country, you will want to visit another one. In one day, you can be in 6 different cities, as I did on a 24-hour adventure across the Netherlands, Belgium, and France. When I was studying in France, I noticed my European friends had the tradition of going back home on the weekends, meaning they would travel back to their countries, whether to the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Belgium, or other French cities. I used to think it was inconvenient.

As an American student, being in college dorms, we had a culture of only going back home during the holidays. It’s expensive for a Californian student studying in Boston to go home every weekend. Not only is the trip long and exhausting, but flights are expensive. However, European students have the luxury of going home, whether to a different city or an entirely different country. Not only is Europe’s size conducive to easy travel, but transportation is also highly affordable, especially flying.
Flying across Europe lets you reach your destinations in an hour or less. You no longer have to put your adventure on hold to nurse nausea from motion sickness during long train or bus rides, as I have. The best part is that it was always affordable. I could catch a plane from one destination to another for less than $30, which was unbelievable. One travel company that makes that happen is Iberia.
