Meet Cynthiche(Cy)
Dear readers,
First and foremost, Welcome to CytheWorld, a travel blog that will help you navigate your ambition to travel, study, work, or live abroad. My name is Cynthiche, but you can refer to me as Cy. CytheWorld is a five-year dream that I am finally manifesting.
My Background
I am a Congolese-American. I majored in Political Science and French and took intensive Chinese courses during my undergraduate career. I also have a Master’s in Conflict and Development Studies. I have received significant study abroad awards, such as the Benjamin Gilman Scholarship and the U.S. Fulbright Scholarship. Although I moved around quite a bit during childhood, I started traveling 7 years ago as an undergraduate student. My first trip without my family was to China during a Winter J-term period. This experience renewed my love of traveling and indulging in different cultures.
If there’s one word to describe me, it is a nomad. I have been a nomad since I was born, traveling from city to city, country to country, and continent to continent. I have been among different nationalities, cultures, and traditions. I pride myself on having a home on almost every continent(except for Antarctica), and I have friends from every walk of life. I often joke that my family picture looks like a group photo at the Olympic or World Cup games. So when it comes to traveling advice for leisure, school, or career, who better to help than a nomad with multiple global exposures?
I have been to and lived on four continents, 12 countries, 35 cities and counting. I studied abroad twice during my undergraduate studies and received my master’s in Belgium. Therefore, when it comes to all facets of international experience, I am your girl!
About CytheWorld
Cy The World is a place that will inspire you to travel, meet new cultures, and see the world. It will also give you tools and resources to plan your travels confidently. This website is your new home if you are a student or a young professional seeking international experiences. Because most of my trips have been solo, I will give you tips on being a solo female traveler. We will cover everything from what to pack and what to do on a Saturday in Paris to how to budget your finances when you are abroad. As a multiple study abroad scholarships and grants winner, I will also introduce you to financial resources like scholarships and grants to fund your study abroad or internship abroad experience.
You will acquire knowledge that will help you in your travel adventures. I will share some funny stories from my journey abroad. You will read stories ranging from having my AirBnB broken into while on vacation in Marseille to dating during the lockdown in Belgium. I will take you on a worldly adventure from China to Monaco, Amsterdam to Barcelona, and Paris to Montreal. You will read about all my crazy adventures. I hope it will make you laugh and give you a realistic roadmap for your travel journey.
The Goal of CytheWorld
As a young woman in her 20s, I view traveling as a spiritual adventure and a tool for self-development. On a personal level, my travel adventures gave me life-saving tools like agency, adaptability, and multiple language skills. Professionally, it has allowed me to connect and build a network with professionals from 124 countries. Therefore, my goal is not just to tell you to travel; at CytheWorld, I want to use traveling as an empowerment tool for young professionals and women.
New blog posts will be uploaded every Sunday and Wednesday at 6 PM Eastern Time. I hope you will not remain a stranger regardless of where you are reading from and join our community here and on other social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter & Pinterest!
Once again, I am happy to welcome you to my home.
Xoxo,
Cy
